PA Cycling Association- Annual Promoters Meeting

Today I met with the Pennsylvania Cycling Association to review and discuss the 2008 race season. The four hour conference held at the Eden Resort included David Mitchell from the Pennsylvania Cycling Association, the USA Cycling PA Chair Dave Miller, Mike Miller from Team Alliance Environmental, David Butterworth and Rich Ruoff from Red Rose Races/ProAm Cycling, to name a few. Needless to say, I was new to the scene and comedically outranked by about 15 years, but our team will benefit from the meeting tremendously. Here’s just a some of what was covered of interest…If you hadn’t already heard, due to some conflicts between the UCI and Lancaster city, the Lancaster Pro race was moved to Allentown. For June of 2008, David Butterworth is setting up the Tom Bamford Classic Lancaster Criterium in the heart of the city, open to pro and amateur racers. The pro races in Allentown, Reading, and Philadelphia will be the same week, so this potentially huge crit should be massively exciting and draw some serious teams to the revised event, just like any other year. The new PA Super Series put on by RRR has some interesting developments. ProAm Cycling recently merged with RRR, and two things have happened. First, in Lancaster county alone there will be even more races, which is HUGE for our team! These additions include the Tom Bamford Crit, the Rapho Road Race, and the Bird-in-Hand Road Race. Second, RRR has made changes to their organizational structure; they offer an option that will give significant discounts for registration if you sign up for all 19 of their mostly road race events; $575, $525, or $475 up front regardless of category. It comes out to $17.17 a race for amateurs and $20.78 a race for Pro/Elite riders who now can race these local road races.Yeah, this is a large investment up front but you get a very large discount, don’t pay for late or BikeReg.com fees, and additionally, you don’t have to pay for their new AMB timing chip (you’ll own it), which will cost racers an extra $5/race or $80 otherwise. A good idea? You decide and let us know.
