The past 4 weekends at the New Holland Training Criterium Series has allowed the Shirk’s Racing Team to stretch their legs (no pun intended), and get back into the swing of racing. These have been pretty much the first races for all of us, and have given us a good idea how the season to come will be. Between the 7 of us in the past 4 weekends, There have been 3 wins, 4 second place finishes, 2 thirds, a fourth, and a fifth place finish as well! That is phenomenal! The results speak for themselves.
Pretty much every scenario has been seen: Solo breakaways, group breakaways, solo sprints, group sprints, finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and sweeping the ‘podium’, and even the occasional lapping of the field has occurred. These races have also provided us with some tactical experience and have allowed us to work together as a team.
The only drawback to the past few weekends of racing has been that Binkley went down and broke his collarbone. Although he is already back on the bike doing some riding, he won’t be able to race with us for another few weeks. Get better Bink!
Basically, the 2009 season will be one to watch. On any given day, any one of us has a chance of pulling off a win. Keep posted for more results, or come cheer us on!!!
So as you are probably well aware, you get to meet a lot of awesome people in our sport. And at Hincapie Sports, there are a lot of such people. I had the chance to meet sponsor and friend Angela Geib of Hincapie at the Tour of California two weeks ago while photographing there. She maintains a slick blog and has twice now linked over to us. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed!

As the winter snow melts away, and daylight savings is FINALLY here, so is the race season! We start off this year with the New Holland Training Criterium Series. This race will take place on each Sunday throughout the remainder of March.
Our very own sponsor, the New Holland Rec, will be providing same day access passes to racers for the use of their facilities on both March 15th and March 22nd! This means riders have access to warm showers, a gorgeous pool, incredible gym facilities, a place to stretch, hang with your teammates, from noon to 5 on the day of the race. Look forward to seeing you there!

So with the race season fast approaching, Noah and I decided to take advantage of the good weather and do a recon ride of the Fawn Grove Roubaix course. All I have to say is get ready to climb and bring good tires and extra tubes! We were fortunate to only have one flat on the ride. This course is the real deal! Everything from steep, dirt climbs up to a 21% grade, to some long wide open rolling sections. If there are high winds these rollers will really hurt! All in all, probably one of the toughest courses we’ll see this season. Hats off to Rich Ruaff on a great course design. So, anyone looking for a great race to do this April definitely check out the Fawn Grove Roubaix!
